Abstract
This research is motivated by the large number of wives who participate in fulfilling family livelihoods. This is certainly not very relevant to the current Marriage Law, which income is the obligation of a husband to his family. This is due to the many phenomena of a husband who neglects his obligation to provide for his girl and children. Based on these problems, several problem formulations emerge to be examined and discussed first what are the factors that cause the girl as a breadwinner in the family. Second, how do the wives think of their involvement in providing a livelihood for the family. This research method uses a qualitative approach using the type of case study research. From the results of the study can be seen factors that cause the girl as a breadwinner in the family economic factors namely factors where economic needs are lacking, in times of increasingly advanced and all-round expensive certainly not enough to rely on income from husbands who do not have a permanent job, thus requiring them to work and participate in meeting the family economy. The opinions of the wives regarding their involvement in providing a living for the family can be concluded that wives sincerely help husbands in fulfilling family livelihoods in order to create a prosperous household in accordance with what is desired. In Islamic Law it is not forbidden for a girl to help her husband in making a living, but they must hold fast to their nature as a woman, as the girl of the husband and as the educator of the children for the sake of the creation of a sakinah, mawaddah and warrahmah.
