Abstract
Abstract. The construction of the UM West Sumatra Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Building has been stopped until the work on the columns has left 1.5 meters of overstep reinforcement on each column since 2021. During this period, the rebar experiences uniform corrosion along the rebar which causes a reduction in the cross-sectional area of the steel reinforcement so that the bearing capacity of the steel will decrease. This study compared the strength of concrete bonding with corrosion and non-corrosion reinforcement bars before construction resumed. The method carried out is a cube bond test with reinforcing steel embedded into concrete as deep as the height of the mold, and the test is done using a compression testing machine (CTM). K-250 concrete specimens of 15X15X15 size equipped with corrosion and non-corrosion D19 reinforcement were made for bonding strength test at 28 days of age. The results showed that the bonding strength of concrete with corrosion reinforcing steel was quite low, which was 0.60 N/mm2, and the bonding strength of concrete with non-corrosion reinforcing steel was higher, which was 1.68 N/mm2. Based on the results of this study, it is better that before the construction work continues, corrosion on all rebar surfaces must be cleaned first.
