Abstract

Agarwood (Aquilaria microcarpa) is a non-timber forest product (NTFP) commodity. Gaharu is formed by injecting the fungus Fusarium Sp. This study aims to determine the differences in changes in physical properties and anatomical structure of agarwood. The method used is observation of physical properties and observation of the anatomical structure of agarwood. The samples used were 8 and 10 year old agarwood which had been and had not been inoculated. The results showed the physical properties, the highest water content was at the age of 8 years inoculated by 16.6%, the lowest at the age of 10 years not inoculated by 13.7%. The highest density was found at the age of 8 years inoculated at 0.26 g/cm and the lowest was at the age of 10 years without inoculation of 0.22 g/cm. The highest density was found at 8 years old inoculated at 0.44 g/cm and the lowest density at 10 years old was not inoculated at 0.41 g/cmᵌ. Macroscopic observations of inoculated agarwood were decayed and blackened, based on the fact that wood aged 10 years experienced more decay at the age of 8 years due to longer age growth. Meanwhile, wood that is not inoculated is less susceptible to decay because it grows naturally. Macroscopic observation of fiber length at the age of 10 years was inoculated at 7,499,067 m. Fiber diameter at the age of 8 years without inoculants was 559.233 m. The highest lumen diameter at the age of 8 years without inoculation was 279.367 m. The highest wall thickness at the age of 10 years was not inoculated 237.2167 m so there was a change in the inoculated agarwood. Keywords : Agarwood, Fusarium Fungus, Physical, Anatomical
