Abstract

This thesis discussed the analysis of errors in writing procedure texts among second-year high school students, focusing on identifying the types and causes of these errors and proposing effective solutions to improve writing skills. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with the subjects being selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a writing test on procedure texts and a questionnaire. The writing test results showed that out of a total of 39 errors, the most dominant error type was omission, with 24 errors or 61.53%, followed by addition with 11 errors or 28.20%, misformation with 3 errors or 7.69%, and misordering with 1 error or 2.05%. The primary causes of these errors were identified through the questionnaire, revealing that carelessness (51%) was the largest factor, followed by first language interference (32.92%) and difficulties in translation (32.12%). Based on these findings, the thesis proposes alternative solutions, including peer review and collaboration, as effective strategies to reduce errors, enhance students' understanding of procedural writing, and improve their overall writing skills. The research design ensures the validity and reliability of the results through data triangulation techniques and adheres to ethical research considerations.
