Abstract

Increased consumer demand for papaya fruit encourages actors who are in the supply chain of papaya to play a maximum role in distributing papaya from farmers to consumers so that they can meet the desires of these consumers. This research was conducted to find out: 1) papaya supply chain flow in Payakumbuh Utara subdistrict and 2) to determine the role of institutions involved in papaya marketing. The research location was chosen deliberately in the Payakumbuh Utara subdistrict. The informant took using the snowball technique. Secondary and primary data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and analytic analysis. The results showed the flow of products, money and information that occurred in the supply chain of papaya in Payakumbuh Utara subdistrict occurred in the form of 8 patterns involving 6 actors directly namely farmers, collecting traders, warehouses, large traders, retailers and end consumers. All institutions involved have their respective roles that are important for the success of the papaya supply chain in achieving its goals. These roles include cultivation, sorting, collecting, transporting, providing capital, storing, grading, packing, buying and selling. Keywords: supply chain, papaya, the role of institutions
