Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using YouTube video blogs (vlogs) on improving students’ listening skills, particularly in learning procedure texts. Listening is a crucial component in language learning, and the use of engaging, contextual media such as YouTube vlogs is believed to support students’ comprehension. This research applied a pre-experimental design involving one group of 35 twelfth-grade students at SMA N 2 Padang Panjang. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests using the Quizizz platform, with YouTube vlogs as the learning media. The findings showed that students’ mean score improved significantly from the pre- test (64.00) to the post-test (86.57). Statistical analysis using a paired sample t-test revealed that the t-count (19.062) was greater than the t-table (2.032), and the significance value (0.000) was less than 0.05. This indicates a significant improvement in students’ listening skills after treatment. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The results confirm that the use of YouTube vlogs is effective in improving students’ listening skills in learning procedure texts.
